Cal Fire's San Benito-Monterey Unit has developed a pioneering drone program that significantly enhances emergency response and prevention efforts. Initially started with two donated drones, the program has expanded to include 19 aircraft equipped with advanced
technology such as thermal imaging and aerial ignition capabilities. These drones are used for various purposes, including wildfire management, search and rescue operations, and risk reduction for first responders. The program has become the largest of its kind in California, with 12 pilots accounting for 40% of all drone flights conducted by Cal Fire.
