What's Happening?
DAZN has announced a multi-year partnership with the National Hockey League (NHL) to launch NHL.TV on its platform, DAZN. This partnership makes DAZN the exclusive international home for NHL.TV in nearly 200 countries and territories, excluding the U.S. and Canada. The service will provide live and on-demand access to every NHL game, including the Stanley Cup Playoffs. DAZN CEO Shay Segev highlighted the collaboration as a significant advancement for hockey fans globally, combining DAZN's technology with the NHL's offerings. NHL.TV will be available as a standalone subscription or as an add-on to existing DAZN packages, accessible on various devices including smart TVs, mobile devices, tablets, and gaming consoles.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is crucial as it expands the NHL's global reach, allowing fans outside North America to access games more easily. It leverages DAZN's extensive distribution network and marketing capabilities, potentially increasing the NHL's international fan base. The move reflects a growing trend in sports broadcasting where leagues seek to enhance their digital presence and accessibility. For DAZN, this deal strengthens its position as a leading sports streaming service, offering diverse content to its 120 million registered users. Existing NHL.TV subscribers will benefit from no price increase, maintaining affordability while gaining enhanced access.
What's Next?
Current NHL.TV international subscribers will receive instructions to transition to DAZN, ensuring a seamless migration. New subscribers can sign up for NHL.TV on DAZN ahead of the 2025-2026 season starting in October. The partnership promises further integration of NHL content across DAZN's platform, potentially leading to innovative viewing experiences and increased engagement. As the NHL continues to expand its digital footprint, similar partnerships may emerge, further transforming how sports content is consumed globally.
