What's Happening?
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been actively implementing Migrant Protection and Assistance (MPA) projects since 2007, focusing on providing humanitarian and protection support to migrants transiting through Somalia. These efforts
are facilitated through Migration Response Centers (MRCs) along the eastern migration corridor. The MPA projects offer four levels of assistance: individual protection and reintegration support, community-based reintegration, structural support related to policy and legal frameworks, and capacity-building and advocacy for key stakeholders. These initiatives align with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the Sustainable Development Goals. The IOM's strategic interventions aim to enhance migration management and governance in Somalia, supporting the drafting of relevant legal and policy frameworks, including counter-trafficking acts and the National Migration Policy.
