What's Happening?
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Foundation has announced an expansion of its High School Aviation STEM Curriculum to include a new pathway focused on aviation maintenance and manufacturing. This initiative aims to address the current
shortage of aviation mechanics by preparing students for careers in aviation manufacturing and maintenance while they are still in high school. An advisory board comprising educators and aviation leaders is being established to ensure the curriculum meets industry needs. The program, which has been available nationwide for free since 2016, has already supported over 130,000 students, including 32,000 in the 2025-2026 school year. The AOPA Foundation plans to develop the curriculum over the next two to three years, with field testing scheduled for 2028.
