What's Happening?
Texas State University (TXST) will host the 4th annual LEADING agricultural science conference from November 10-12. This three-day event will bring together over 100 agricultural science graduate and undergraduate students from four universities: TXST,
Texas A&M University-Kingsville, New Mexico State University, and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez. The conference aims to highlight student research related to agriculture and natural resources from these participating institutions. Melanie Rae, vice president for people development for McCoy’s Building Supply, will deliver the keynote address. The LEADING initiative is supported by a $20 million grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s From Learning to Leading: NextGen Program, which is designed to develop and sustain the next generation of the food, agriculture, natural resources, and human sciences workforce.
Why It's Important?
This conference is crucial for fostering the next generation of agricultural scientists and professionals, which is vital for the future of U.S. food security and natural resource management. By showcasing student research and providing networking opportunities, the event helps to cultivate talent and innovation in critical fields. The USDA's significant investment through the NextGen Program underscores the national importance of developing a skilled workforce to address challenges in agriculture, food production, and environmental sustainability.
