State officials have announced that a bridge in Guilford County, North Carolina, will be renamed in honor of the late Sgt. Philip Dale Nix. The bridge, located on Sandy Ridge Road over I-40 in Colfax, will be dedicated to Nix, who served with the Greensboro
Police Department for over 20 years. Sgt. Nix was tragically killed in December 2023 while attempting to intervene in a crime he witnessed at a gas station on Sandy Ridge Road. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Monday afternoon, which will be attended by state and local officials, law enforcement members, and Nix's friends and family. During the event, the Sandy Ridge Road exit ramp from I-40 will be closed from 1 p.m. until the ceremony concludes.
