What's Happening?
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is initiating a major traffic shift on I-94 in Wayne County as part of the Restore I-94 project. Starting Saturday, eastbound I-94 traffic will be redirected across the median into shared lanes on the westbound
side, separated by a barrier wall. This construction spans approximately 13 miles and involves significant road and bridge work. The new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through mid-2027. Several ramps will be closed long-term, including those at Wayne Road and Merriman Road, with detours provided. MDOT advises drivers to plan for extra travel time and to use alternative routes, especially when heading to Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
