Firefighters from the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire incident involving an e-scooter at a home on Humber Road in Witham. The incident occurred when the battery of an electric scooter ignited, prompting the occupant to throw the scooter outside
before it was fully engulfed in flames. Station manager Scott Fretton emphasized the dangers posed by lithium-ion batteries, which can cause intense and toxic fires. He advised against keeping or charging e-bikes and e-scooters indoors and warned against leaving them unattended while charging. The fire service highlighted the importance of using manufacturer-approved chargers and replacing any damaged batteries or chargers.
