What's Happening?
The Busan Biennale has announced its lineup for the 2026 edition, titled 'Dissident Chorus', which will run from August 29 to November 1. Curated by Evelyne Simons and Amal Khalaf, the exhibition will explore the theme of sound as a language of resistance
and solidarity. The biennale will feature 46 artists and collectives, including names like Aliaskar Abarkas, Alison Nguyen, and Julian Abraham 'Togar'. The event aims to highlight how sound can be used as a tool for social and political expression, bringing together a diverse group of artists to explore these themes through various mediums.
Why It's Important?
The Busan Biennale's focus on sound as a form of resistance is significant in the context of global social and political movements. By emphasizing sound, the biennale challenges traditional visual-centric art exhibitions and highlights the power of auditory experiences in conveying messages of dissent and unity. This approach not only broadens the scope of contemporary art but also provides a platform for underrepresented voices and narratives. The biennale's theme resonates with current global issues, offering a space for dialogue and reflection on the role of art in activism and social change.
