What's Happening?
The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum is commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of the Rochester Subway service and the 110th birthday of Rochester Subway Car 60 with a series of events in June. A gala event will be held at the George
Eastman House on June 21, featuring a 1950s-themed fundraiser with classic cocktails and a film screening. This will be followed by Subway Day on June 27, where attendees can explore special exhibits on the subway's history and enjoy rides on vintage diesel trains. These events aim to raise funds for the restoration of Car 60, the last surviving car of the Rochester Subway.
Why It's Important?
These events highlight the cultural and historical significance of the Rochester Subway, which played a crucial role in the city's transportation history. By celebrating these milestones, the museum not only preserves the legacy of the subway but also engages the community in its restoration efforts. The events serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving historical infrastructure and the stories they tell. Additionally, they provide an opportunity for community engagement and education, fostering a deeper appreciation for local history and heritage.
