What's Happening?
Recent heavy rainfall and tidal surges have caused significant flooding in Chattogram, Bangladesh, severely impacting agriculture and fisheries. According to Md. Omar Faruk, additional deputy director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, the floods
have submerged and damaged Aus paddy fields across 9,043 hectares and summer vegetable crops on 5,907 hectares. The flooding has also affected approximately 10,000 ponds and shrimp enclosures, leading to substantial financial losses in the fishery sector. The damage is particularly severe in the upazilas of Banshkhali, Satkania, Lohagara, and Dohazari.

The government and local authorities may need to implement long-term measures to enhance flood resilience and support recovery efforts for the affected communities.
