Unionport Constructors, a joint venture between SPC Construction and Lane Construction, has completed the $232 million Unionport Bridge Replacement Project in the Bronx, New York. The new bridge, which spans the Bruckner Expressway over Westchester Creek,
replaces the old Unionport Bridge, a bascule bridge built in the 1950s. The project, which began in 2017, was completed in ten phases, allowing traffic and maritime operations to continue throughout construction. The new structure is a modern double-leaf bascule bridge designed for a 75-year service life. It connects the Cross Bronx Expressway, Bruckner Expressway, and Hutchinson River Parkway, featuring two side-by-side, single-leaf bascule spans that each support three lanes of traffic. The bridge also includes a dedicated pedestrian walkway, a protected bike lane, and advanced mechanical and electrical systems.
