Researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome have published a study in Nature Communications uncovering unique biological processes in individuals with Down syndrome who have various co-occurring conditions.
This study, part of the Human Trisome Project, analyzed hundreds of blood samples to identify physiological differences among participants with Down syndrome, mapping changes in gene expression, protein levels, and immune cell types across 100 clinical traits. The findings provide an unprecedented atlas of the processes underlying medical complexity in Down syndrome, highlighting the effects of the extra chromosome 21 and other unique medical conditions.
