SalamAir, an Oman-based low-cost carrier, is facing operational challenges due to durability issues with its CFM International Leap-1A engines. As a result, one-third of its Airbus A320neo-family fleet is grounded. Outgoing CEO Adrian Hamilton-Manns highlighted
the difficulties in engine repair turnaround times, with five Neos grounded and 12 engines undergoing repairs. To mitigate the impact, SalamAir has leased two older Airbus A320ceos, expected to arrive in May, to reduce aircraft-on-ground time and stabilize operations. The airline's operations have also been affected by geopolitical tensions in the region, leading to suspended flights to destinations like Kuwait, Beirut, Iraq, and Iran. Additionally, the airline's on-time performance dropped from 89% in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 65% in the first quarter of 2026 due to airspace restrictions and airport closures.
