Nike has unveiled Project Amplify, a new line of robotic sneakers developed in collaboration with robotics startup Dephy. These innovative shoes are designed to act as a 'second set of calf muscles' for
everyday athletes, aiming to make walking and running more efficient. The first-generation model features a running shoe with a carbon fiber plate, a calf-mounted rechargeable battery, a motor, and a drive belt. The design is intended to make uphill movement feel like flat ground, potentially reducing mile times significantly. Over 400 athletes participated in testing, covering more than 2.4 million steps, equivalent to 12,000 laps around a 200-meter track.
