What's Happening?
PJM Interconnection has activated Pre-Emergency Demand Response and Emergency Demand Response programs across its footprint on September 17 to manage electricity supply during unusually warm September weather and ongoing maintenance outages. Higher temperatures
are driving increased electricity demand within PJM and boosting export needs to neighboring systems experiencing even hotter conditions. PJM is currently in its outage season, typically from mid-September through December, when transmission and generation facilities undergo maintenance. Despite recalling or canceling some outages, approximately 36,000 MW in generation outages and additional transmission outages remain. Pre-Emergency Demand Response was initiated in most zones, with additional Emergency Demand Response called for BGE, PepCo, and Dominion zones. PJM also secured an emergency order from the U.S. Department of Energy, effective through September 18, providing flexibility to address system conditions.
