What's Happening?
LeMa'anchem, an Israeli nonprofit organization, has announced the establishment of a new center focused on treating anorexia and other eating disorders among children and adolescents in Israel. Prof. Hezi Levy has been appointed to oversee the project,
which aims to address the growing demand for specialized treatment in this area. The center will provide a comprehensive response, from early identification to intensive treatment referrals, and aims to make services accessible across various sectors of Israeli society. The initiative is led by Prof. Yosef Peres and Prof. Noa Ben Aroya, with the goal of creating a high-quality continuum of care that centers on the needs of the child and family.
Why It's Important?
The creation of this center addresses a critical gap in the availability of specialized treatment for eating disorders in Israel. By focusing on early identification and comprehensive care, the center aims to improve outcomes for affected children and adolescents. Eating disorders pose significant health risks and can have long-term impacts on physical and mental health. This initiative highlights the importance of accessible and coordinated healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable populations. It also reflects a broader trend towards addressing mental health issues with the same urgency and resources as physical health conditions.
