A 29-year-old man died after a suspected lightning strike in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Monday when Whitewater Fire and EMS responded to a report of a person stuck in a tree on South Elizabeth Street. The man was found
unresponsive, suspended 60 feet high in the tree. A subcontracted crew performing tree clearing in the area reported a loud bang and flash, suggesting a lightning strike. Despite wearing a safety harness, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Whitewater Police Department and Walworth County Medical Examiner are investigating the death.
