What's Happening?
Türkiye's Sefine Shipyard, through its Strategic and Unmanned Systems Research Center (SİSAM), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada's Kraken Robotics. This agreement, announced during the Saha Expo exhibition in Istanbul, aims
to integrate Kraken's Katfish synthetic aperture sonar (SAR) into SİSAM's mission planning software. The collaboration focuses on developing automatic target recognition capabilities, utilizing high-resolution sonar data processed in near real-time. The integration will involve algorithms and image processing techniques for signal analysis and classification. A demonstration of Kraken's Katfish and the launch of Sefine's SİS unmanned surface vehicle (USV) was conducted off the coast of Istanbul in April 2026.
