Starlink is actively engaging with mobile operators in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to participate in a $400 million government-backed expansion plan aimed at enhancing broadband access. This
initiative follows the lifting of a suspension on Starlink's operations in May 2025. The project, which involves a partnership with Monacosat, aims to launch a dedicated broadband satellite for the DRC. Starlink is in discussions with Africell and Vodacom for operational partnerships, with Vodacom describing Starlink's service as complementary to existing networks. Despite the enthusiasm, challenges such as limited infrastructure and high costs persist, with only 30% of the DRC's population having internet access in 2023.
