What's Happening?
The SAMP/T NG surface-to-air missile defence system is being developed through a collaboration between France and Italy, aimed at replacing the current SAMP/T systems. This new system offers enhanced range,
altitude performance, and improved anti-tactical ballistic missile capabilities. It is designed to provide simultaneous protection for sensitive sites and deployed forces against missile threats and aircraft. The system is set to enter service in 2026 and will operate with the ASTER family of munitions. The development of SAMP/T NG began in March 2021, with several milestones achieved, including successful missile launches and contract formalizations for production.
