What's Happening?
The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir has initiated a Student Rural Exploration Programme (SREP) as part of its Holistic Agriculture Development Programme. This initiative aims to transform agricultural education
by engaging students in hands-on rural experiences. Over 3,000 students have been deployed across more than 300 university-adopted villages in the Kashmir Valley. The program is designed to bridge the gap between scientific research and grassroots agricultural practices. Students from various disciplines, including agriculture, horticulture, veterinary sciences, and more, are participating in multidisciplinary teams under faculty supervision. These teams conduct field surveys and participatory rural appraisal exercises to understand local farming systems, economies, and community challenges. The program not only provides students with practical exposure but also offers farmers guidance on modern techniques and improved agricultural practices.
