United Airlines is set to expand its domestic flight offerings from O'Hare International Airport next year, following a successful gate reallocation process. The airline will introduce flights to 10 new
destinations, including Santa Barbara, California; Eugene, Oregon; Paducah, Kentucky; and Rochester, Minnesota. This expansion is facilitated by the acquisition of five new gates, which United secured under a 'use it or lose it' provision in a lease agreement with the city of Chicago. This agreement, signed in 2018 with American Airlines, allows for gate reallocation based on an airline's flying frequency. The reallocation process led to a legal dispute with American Airlines, which lost four gates. However, a Cook County judge ruled in favor of the city, officially granting United the new gates on October 1.
