A new Global Extreme Weather and Climate Change Dashboard, developed by The Honest Broker (THB), reveals that eight specific weather and climate phenomena are responsible for nearly all human and economic
tolls related to weather and climate events globally. These phenomena include tropical cyclones, extratropical cyclones, extreme heat, cold spells & frost, river flooding, drought (hydrological and agricultural/ecological), and wildfire. According to EM-DAT records from 1980 to 2025, these events account for 99.7% of global weather/climate-related economic losses and 97.7% of weather/climate-related deaths. The dashboard applies the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) detection framework to assess trends across 393 indicators from 71 variables, providing a broad, global, and IPCC-aligned tool for trend detection. It focuses on identifying changes in climate without attributing specific causal factors, such as human-caused warming, which would require separate model-based analysis.
