The Duneland School Board has officially appointed Robert McDermott as the new superintendent, succeeding Chip Pettit. McDermott, previously the assistant superintendent, will begin his new role on July 1 with a starting salary of $210,000, which will increase
if he relocates within the district. In his first major decision, McDermott has appointed Dr. Benjamin Tonagel as the new assistant superintendent. Tonagel brings extensive experience from his previous roles in the LaPorte Community School Corporation. The appointments were celebrated by the school board and community members, highlighting a smooth transition and continued focus on educational excellence.
Why It's Important?

McDermott's familiarity with the district and Tonagel's experience are expected to ensure continuity and stability. This transition is significant for stakeholders, including teachers, students, and parents, as it impacts educational policies and initiatives. The appointments also reflect the district's commitment to fostering a collaborative environment and building on the successes achieved under previous leadership.
