What's Happening?
GE Aerospace has entered into a collaboration with Shield AI to provide propulsion and testing support for the X-BAT program, an AI-piloted vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) fighter jet. The partnership is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU), under which GE Aerospace's F110-GE-129 engine, featuring the Axisymmetric Vectoring Exhaust Nozzle (AVEN), will be used to power the X-BAT. This aircraft, introduced by Shield AI in Washington, DC, operates autonomously using the Hivemind software, which allows it to function in environments with limited communication. The X-BAT is designed to enter contested airspace, coordinate with piloted aircraft, and execute missions independently or as part of a team.
