What's Happening?
The DEEP Vanguard station, a new underwater habitat, has been deployed in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, marking the first subsea human habitat in U.S. waters in 40 years. Operated by the UK-based company DEEP, the station is designed to
house four aquanauts for missions lasting five to seven days. It is equipped with modern technologies to minimize ecological impact, including systems for capturing and treating gray water and human waste. The station aims to support coral restoration efforts by monitoring and reviving a coral garden in crisis.
