What's Happening?
The Main ARmoured Tank of Europe (MARTE) consortium has reached a significant milestone in the development of a future main battle tank (MBT) for Europe. This progress follows the European Commission's approval of key deliverables, marking the transition
to the design phase. The project, launched in December 2024, is supported by a €20 million grant from the European Defence Fund. The consortium, led by KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme, has completed various technical work packages and submitted a comprehensive Concept of Operations and a consolidated set of requirements. These efforts aim to address current and future operational needs by incorporating advanced technologies. The project involves 11 EU member states, including Germany, Belgium, and Sweden, and engages closely with their respective Ministries of Defence.
