What's Happening?
The 24th Street Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation project in Phoenix has been awarded the 2026 Water Treatment Project of the Year by the Arizona Water Association. Managed by PCL Construction in partnership
with Carollo Engineers, the project focused on enhancing the reliability and resilience of a critical water treatment facility serving northern Phoenix. The upgrades aim to address ongoing drought conditions and reductions in Colorado River water supplies, ensuring consistent service to approximately 400,000 residents. Despite challenges such as pandemic-era supply chain issues, the project was completed on time, maintaining uninterrupted water service.
Why It's Important?
This recognition underscores the importance of modernizing water infrastructure to cope with environmental challenges like drought. The project highlights the need for innovative solutions to ensure water security in arid regions. By improving system reliability, the rehabilitation supports the sustainability of water resources, which is crucial for the economic and social well-being of Phoenix's growing population. The award also reflects successful collaboration between contractors, engineers, and city officials, setting a precedent for future infrastructure projects in the region.
