What's Happening?
The Alaska Beacon, in collaboration with Alaska Public Media, KTOO, and the Anchorage Daily News, has released the 2026 Alaska Voter Guide. This guide is designed to help Alaskans make informed decisions during elections by providing detailed information
on candidates' positions and beliefs. The guide includes responses from 107 out of 132 state legislative candidates, as well as candidates for the governor's race and U.S. House and Senate races. The initiative aims to enhance voter engagement by focusing on candidates' stances on key issues rather than just polling data.
Why It's Important?
The 2026 Alaska Voter Guide plays a crucial role in promoting informed voting, which is essential for a healthy democracy. By providing comprehensive information on candidates' positions, the guide empowers voters to make decisions based on policy rather than personality or party affiliation. This approach encourages accountability among elected officials and fosters a more engaged electorate. The guide's emphasis on issues such as public education, state revenue, and the Permanent Fund dividend reflects the priorities of Alaskan voters, ensuring that their voices are heard in the political process.
