The US Navy has awarded a $282.9 million contract to HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding unit for the development of the first FF(X) class frigate. This contract, confirmed by the Pentagon, is a cost-plus-award-fee
agreement aimed at supporting the lead yard for the new class of ships. The FF(X) frigate is based on the design of the US Coast Guard's Legend-class National Security Cutter. The US Navy plans to procure a total of four FF(X) frigates as part of its future years defense program.
