The Small Business in Transportation Coalition (SBTC) has announced a partnership with Language Testing International (LTI) to provide English language proficiency assessments for its corporate members. This initiative aims to ensure that commercial drivers
meet federal regulations requiring them to be proficient in English. The regulations, outlined in 49 CFR 391.11, mandate that drivers must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records. The partnership comes after U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy signed an order in May to strengthen enforcement of these regulations. LTI, founded in 1992, is the exclusive licensee of ACTFL language proficiency assessments, which are recognized across various industries and government agencies.
