What's Happening?
Sanmar has successfully delivered two new azimuth tractor tugs to Svitzer, a global maritime operator, for operations in Bahrain. The tugs, originally named DELIÇAY XVI and DELIÇAY XVII during construction in Türkiye, have been renamed SVITZER MANAMA
and SVITZER AWAL. Designed by Canadian naval architect Robert Allan Ltd, these tugs feature a length of 25.3 meters and are equipped with twin Z-drive propellers. They are capable of a minimum bollard pull of 80 tons and a speed of 12.5 knots. The tugs are designed for harbor ship handling and towing duties, with enhanced safety features including a Fi-Fi 1 system.
Why It's Important?
The delivery of these advanced tugs represents a significant enhancement in maritime operations for Svitzer in Bahrain. The tugs' design and capabilities improve efficiency and safety in harbor operations, which are critical for the smooth functioning of maritime logistics and trade. This development is part of a broader trend in the maritime industry towards adopting more efficient and technologically advanced vessels, which can lead to reduced operational costs and improved environmental performance. The introduction of these tugs also highlights the ongoing collaboration between international companies in the maritime sector.
