What's Happening?
A Clarksville-based clinic, Pitts Therapies, LLC, operating as Cornerstone Pediatric Therapies, has agreed to a $300,000 settlement with the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee.
The settlement addresses allegations of excessive billing to TRICARE, a healthcare program for military personnel and their families. The clinic was accused of billing for more units of a service code than allowed and using two billing codes when only one was payable, from 2020 to mid-2025. TRICARE, managed by the Defense Health Agency, serves over 9.6 million service members, retirees, and their families. The U.S. Attorney's Office emphasized the importance of protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring that fraudulent claims are not tolerated. The investigation was conducted by the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, with assistance from the Army Criminal Investigative Division.
Why It's Important?
This settlement underscores the ongoing efforts by federal authorities to combat healthcare fraud, particularly within programs serving military families. By addressing fraudulent billing practices, the government aims to safeguard taxpayer funds and ensure that resources are appropriately allocated to those in need. The case highlights the importance of compliance with billing regulations and the potential consequences for healthcare providers who engage in fraudulent activities. It also serves as a warning to other providers about the scrutiny and legal actions they may face if found guilty of similar practices.
