What's Happening?
NASA is preparing to release a new Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the EPSCoR Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) award in April 2026. This initiative aims to support research in STEM fields that align with NASA's priorities and mission directorates.
The NOFO will have a quick turnaround for the Request for Proposals (RFP), with awards offering up to $750,000 for a three-year period of performance. The ND NASA EPSCoR Director, Dr. Caitlin Milera, will serve as the Principal Investigator for the North Dakota proposal, while faculty proposers will act as Science Investigators. The program seeks to enhance research capabilities in states that have historically received less federal research funding.
Why It's Important?
The release of the EPSCoR CAN NOFO is significant as it provides funding opportunities to enhance research capabilities in STEM fields across the U.S., particularly in states that have been underrepresented in federal research funding. This initiative supports NASA's strategic goals by fostering innovation and collaboration in areas critical to its mission. The funding can help institutions develop infrastructure, increase competitiveness, and contribute to scientific advancements. It also encourages collaboration between NASA and academic institutions, potentially leading to breakthroughs in space exploration and technology.
What's Next?
Following the release of the NOFO, eligible institutions will need to prepare and submit their proposals quickly due to the short turnaround time. The ND NASA EPSCoR team will be seeking reviewers for pre-proposals, which will be evaluated for alignment with NASA's priorities. Successful proposals will move forward for funding consideration. Institutions will need to demonstrate the relevance and impact of their research projects, ensuring they align with NASA's mission directorates.
