What's Happening?
The St. Regis brand is set to make its debut in the Australia and New Zealand region with the opening of a new hotel in Queenstown, New Zealand, scheduled for late 2027. The 145-key property will be located in central Queenstown, offering views of The Remarkables
mountain range and Lake Wakatipu. The hotel will feature the signature St. Regis Bar, The Drawing Room, an all-day dining venue, a full-service spa, and a 24/7 gym. Butler service will also be available, maintaining the brand's standard of luxury. Richard Crawford, Marriott’s VP of Hotel Development for Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific, expressed excitement about establishing the iconic St. Regis brand in such a popular destination, noting that Queenstown attracts over two million visitors annually.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of a St. Regis hotel in Queenstown is significant as it marks the brand's first presence in the Australia and New Zealand region, potentially elevating the area's status as a luxury travel destination. This development could attract more high-end tourists, boosting the local economy and creating job opportunities. The addition of a world-class luxury hotel may also encourage other luxury brands to consider Queenstown for future investments, further enhancing the region's appeal to affluent travelers. The move aligns with Marriott's strategy to expand its luxury portfolio in key international markets.
