What's Happening?
The Fairy Godmothers of Rochester are hosting their first dress drive of the prom season this weekend. Founded in 2004 by Rene Spallina and Cynthia Jackson, the program provides prom dresses and accessories
to high school students who cannot afford them. The initiative is donation-based, offering a selection of new and gently used dresses. The dress drive will take place at the Marketplace Mall in Henrietta, with the first Prom Dress Fair scheduled for March 2026.
Why It's Important?
The Fairy Godmothers' dress drive addresses the financial barriers that prevent some students from participating in prom, a significant social event in high school. By providing free dresses and accessories, the program promotes inclusivity and ensures that all students can enjoy this milestone. The initiative also fosters community involvement, as it relies on donations and volunteer support. This event highlights the importance of community-based programs in supporting youth and addressing socioeconomic disparities.
