The Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has initiated a roadshow to assist farmers in understanding the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP) grant funding application process. The event also aimed to update farmers on the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak affecting livestock in the province. Held at the Xhariep District Municipality Auditorium, the workshop attracted approximately 147 farmers. Presentations covered animal health, focusing on the FMD outbreak, agricultural extension services, and stock theft prevention. Mavis Dlanga, an animal health control technician, highlighted the recurring FMD outbreaks in several provinces, noting that while Xhariep has not yet been affected, biosecurity measures remain crucial. The roadshow also provided guidelines for grant applications, emphasizing the importance of consulting local extension offices before submission.
