AeroVironment, Inc., a leader in autonomous systems, has introduced the TOM 50 RE, a compact, backpackable uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) designed for rapid reconnaissance and explosive ordnance disposal. Developed by its subsidiary Telerob, the TOM 50 RE is engineered
to support dismounted forces, explosive ordnance disposal teams, and special operations units, including SWAT teams, in complex and contested environments. Weighing less than 10 kilograms, the UGV is portable and can be deployed quickly in confined spaces. It features advanced capabilities such as simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for autonomous mapping of interior spaces, and is equipped with high-resolution cameras for 360-degree situational awareness. The TOM 50 RE was unveiled at Eurosatory 2026, a global defense and security event in Paris.
