What's Happening?
The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 grants through the Dale Hileman Legacy Fund and the Donald R. Myers Legacy Fund. These grants are aimed at supporting economic development and enhancing the quality
of life in the Appalachian region of Ohio. The Dale Hileman Legacy Fund, supported by the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance, focuses on economic growth within a specific service area that includes several counties such as Athens, Belmont, and Columbiana. The fund allows for funding requests up to $1,000. Similarly, the Donald R. Myers Legacy Fund supports nonprofit and public organizations across a 32-county region, focusing on projects that improve quality of life, including education and community leadership. Applications for both funds must be submitted online by March 17, 2026.
Why It's Important?
These grants are significant as they provide financial support to initiatives that aim to stimulate economic growth and improve living conditions in the Appalachian region of Ohio. The funds target areas that have historically faced economic challenges, offering opportunities for local development and community enhancement. By supporting projects that focus on education, regional networking, and basic needs, these grants can help build a more robust infrastructure for future growth. The involvement of the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance and the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Alliance underscores a collaborative effort to address regional disparities and promote sustainable development.
What's Next?
Organizations interested in applying for these grants must prepare their proposals and submit them by the March 17 deadline. Following the application period, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio will review submissions and allocate funds to selected projects. This process will likely involve assessing the potential impact of proposed projects on the community and their alignment with the goals of the respective funds. Successful applicants will be notified and can begin implementing their projects, contributing to the region's economic and social development.
