What's Happening?
Former Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has taken on a new role as co-chair of RAISE US, a group focused on preparing workers for changes in the economy driven by artificial intelligence. Partnering with former Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, the initiative
aims to work with states, companies, and universities to develop programs that help workers acquire new skills. RAISE US has already raised over $500 million towards a $1 billion goal, with support from major companies like Microsoft, IBM, and Eli Lilly. The initiative seeks to ensure that workers can adapt to the evolving job market.
Why It's Important?
As AI continues to transform industries, initiatives like RAISE US are crucial for equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to thrive in a changing economy. By focusing on workforce training, the initiative addresses potential job displacement and aims to create new employment opportunities. The involvement of major corporations and multiple states highlights the widespread recognition of the need for proactive measures in workforce development. This effort could serve as a model for other regions, promoting economic resilience and ensuring that technological advancements benefit a broad segment of the population.
