What's Happening?
Aggreko has finalized a power purchase agreement with Harmony Gold for the Eva copper project in northwest Queensland, Australia. The agreement paves the way for the development of Australia's largest off-grid renewable hybrid power facility, combining
a 118 MWp solar farm, a 250 MWh battery energy storage system, and a 104 MVA thermal power facility. Aggreko will build, own, and operate the asset, optimized for renewable energy use. The project aims to provide a resilient energy platform for the copper mine, with potential wind integration and future grid connection.
Why It's Important?
The Eva project represents a significant shift in Australia's resources sector, with miners increasingly turning to renewable energy sources to improve economics, energy efficiency, and reduce carbon footprints. The development of this hybrid power plant sets a new benchmark for off-grid energy solutions, demonstrating the potential for renewable energy to support large-scale industrial operations. By reducing fuel consumption and emissions, the project aligns with global efforts to transition to cleaner energy systems and address climate change challenges.
