A major U.S. clinical trial has demonstrated that silver diamine fluoride (SDF), a low-cost liquid, can effectively halt the progression of cavities in young children without the need for drilling or anesthesia. Conducted by the University of Michigan
School of Dentistry, the trial involved 830 children under six years old and showed that applying SDF every six months successfully arrested decay in over half of the affected teeth.
