What's Happening?
Firaxis is testing a new feature for Civilization 7 that allows players to lead a single civilization from start to finish, addressing player feedback on the game's Ages system. The Ages system divides
gameplay into three historical phases, requiring players to switch civilizations at each transition. This approach aimed to encourage players to complete games but has not been as popular as previous versions. Firaxis is introducing Continuity Mode to maintain wars between transitions and is exploring ways to allow continuous play with one civilization. Testing will occur through the Firaxis Feature Workshop, involving community members.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of this feature could significantly impact player engagement and satisfaction with Civilization 7. By allowing continuous play with one civilization, Firaxis may attract players who prefer a more traditional gameplay style, potentially increasing the game's popularity and sales. This move reflects the company's responsiveness to community feedback and its commitment to improving the gaming experience. The success of this feature could influence future game development strategies within the industry, emphasizing the importance of community-driven enhancements.
What's Next?
Firaxis plans to test the new feature over the coming months through the Firaxis Feature Workshop, involving select community members. The testing process will be coordinated via the official Discord, with application instructions provided alongside a game update. This update will introduce new naval elements, including a Harbor building and Privateer unit. The outcome of these tests will likely determine the final implementation of the feature, with potential adjustments based on player feedback.
