The Solent Seascape Project, led by Blue Marine Foundation, has successfully established an oyster reef in the River Hamble, which is now thriving with marine life. The reef, created in 2023, covers an area
the size of a football pitch and is home to about 30,000 oysters. Recent footage captured by a remote operated vehicle shows a vibrant ecosystem with sponges, sea lettuce, crabs, and fish flourishing on the reef. The project aims to restore native oyster reefs in the Solent area, reversing the decline of the oyster fishery industry.
