What's Happening?
European Sleeper, a night train operator, has announced a €2.3 million ($4 million) crowdfunding campaign to support its expansion across Europe. The company, which started operations in 2023, plans to introduce new overnight routes from Paris to Berlin
and from Brussels/Amsterdam to Milan. The campaign invites public investment, with contributions starting from €280. Investors contributing €2,000 or more will receive a 20% discount on tickets. European Sleeper has carried over 230,000 passengers and aims to raise €1.3 million initially, followed by an additional €1 million, to launch the Paris-Berlin night train in March 2026.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of European Sleeper highlights the growing demand for sustainable travel options, particularly in the rail sector. As travelers increasingly prioritize sustainability, the company's focus on night trains offers an eco-friendly alternative to air travel. This expansion could strengthen Europe's rail network, providing more connectivity and reducing carbon footprints. The crowdfunding approach also reflects a shift towards community-supported business models, engaging the public in sustainable mobility initiatives. The success of this campaign could encourage similar projects, promoting a more connected and environmentally conscious Europe.
