What's Happening?
Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) has entered into strategic partnerships with Italian companies Fincantieri and Roboze to advance naval shipbuilding and establish Bahrain's first smart plant dedicated
to additive manufacturing. The agreement with Fincantieri focuses on the design and construction of surface naval vessels up to 80 meters in length for use by the Navy and Coast Guard, as well as exploring offshore unit designs and potential export contracts in the Gulf region. Additionally, ASRY and Fincantieri will collaborate on maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for various vessels, sharing expertise in ship design and production optimization. The partnership with Roboze aims to create an industrial hub for advanced additive manufacturing, supporting sectors such as marine MRO, oil and gas, energy, aerospace, and defense. The new facility will integrate industrial 3D printing and advanced manufacturing processes, reducing downtime, optimizing spare-parts management, and minimizing logistics costs.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between ASRY and Fincantieri represents a significant boost to Bahrain's naval capabilities and shipbuilding industry, potentially enhancing regional security and maritime operations. The establishment of a smart plant for additive manufacturing positions Bahrain as a leader in advanced manufacturing technologies, supporting various industries with high-performance components. This initiative is expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and foster innovation in the region. By reducing dependency on foreign suppliers and optimizing production processes, the partnerships could lead to cost savings and increased efficiency in critical sectors, strengthening Bahrain's industrial infrastructure.
