What's Happening?
Cuyahoga Arts and Culture (CAC) has announced the allocation of $12.9 million in grants for 2026, benefiting over 300 nonprofit organizations in Cuyahoga County. These grants are part of CAC's commitment to support arts and cultural organizations through
general operating and project support funds. The general operating support program will provide $11.4 million to 152 organizations, including significant grants to institutions like Playhouse Square and The Cleveland Orchestra. Additionally, 156 projects will receive a total of $901,977 in project support grants. This funding is made possible by tax revenues approved by voters in 2024, ensuring continued support for the arts community despite anticipated declines in cigarette tax revenues.
Why It's Important?
The grants from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture play a crucial role in sustaining the arts and cultural landscape of Cuyahoga County. By providing financial support to a wide range of organizations, CAC ensures that arts and culture remain accessible and vibrant, contributing to the community's quality of life and economic vitality. The funding also addresses the challenges posed by declining tax revenues, highlighting the importance of strategic fiscal management to maintain consistent support for the arts. This initiative reflects the community's commitment to preserving and enhancing its cultural heritage, which is vital for fostering creativity, education, and social cohesion.
