What's Happening?
The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and the Government of Rajasthan have signed four Memorandums of Understanding to improve agricultural productivity and climate resilience in Rajasthan. This collaboration,
announced at the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet 2026, focuses on establishing centers of excellence in millet systems, genomics, regenerative agriculture, and digital innovations. These initiatives aim to empower smallholder farmers by leveraging advanced agricultural technologies and research to combat poverty and environmental challenges.
Why It's Important?
This strategic alliance is significant as it addresses the pressing need for sustainable agricultural practices in Rajasthan, a region prone to climate variability. By focusing on climate-resilient crops and advanced breeding techniques, the partnership aims to enhance food security and economic stability for farmers. The collaboration also underscores the importance of integrating digital tools and market linkages to modernize agriculture, which can lead to increased productivity and improved livelihoods for the farming community.
