Archaeologists in northern Israel have uncovered a wine press dating back approximately 5,000 years, marking one of the oldest relics of wine production in the country. The discovery was made at Tel Megiddo during an excavation conducted by the Israel Antiquities
Authority ahead of planned highway construction. The wine press, carved from stone, provides evidence of a Canaanite religious group that existed at the site thousands of years ago. The Canaanites were ancient indigenous people who inhabited the area known as Canaan, located in the Levant along the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The excavation also revealed a model of a small temple and ceremonial utensils, approximately 3,300 years old, among other artifacts spanning the early and late Bronze Ages.
